Sat May 10 23:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Pakistan Claims Ceasefire with India, but Immediate Violations Reported

**NEW DELHI/ISLAMABAD –** Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a ceasefire with India Saturday night, expressing hopes for dialogue on key issues including water rights and the disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Sharif thanked several international leaders, including US President Donald Trump, for their roles in brokering the agreement. However, India swiftly accused Pakistan of violating the ceasefire within hours of its announcement.

According to Indian officials, Pakistan initiated fresh cross-border shelling and infiltration attempts along the Line of Control (LoC) Saturday evening. Indian forces responded with retaliatory fire. Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated that India views these violations as a serious breach of the agreement and warned of strong responses to any further provocations. Misri confirmed that the ceasefire understanding was initiated by Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO).

Despite Sharif’s claims of a truce and his hopes for future talks, the conflicting reports paint a picture of continued tension on the ground. The situation remains highly volatile.
