Sun May 11 05:24:59 UTC 2025: ## Kashmir Sees First Night of Calm After India-Pakistan Ceasefire
**Srinagar, May 11, 2025** – A sense of normalcy returned to the Kashmir Valley on Sunday, following a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan that took effect Saturday at 5 p.m. Residents reported their first night in six days without the sounds of conflict, although some remain hesitant to fully return to their homes.
The ceasefire, announced by Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, halts all military action by both countries on land, air, and sea. The agreement follows heightened tensions after India launched strikes on terror launchpads in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in response to the recent Pahalgam attack. US President Donald Trump reportedly mediated the talks leading to the ceasefire.
While officials reported no ceasefire violations after 11 p.m. on Saturday, dozens of drones were observed over the valley earlier in the evening, raising concerns about the agreement’s durability. Many residents, particularly those who had fled border areas, expressed cautious optimism, stating their intention to wait a few days before returning home to ensure the ceasefire holds.
“It has been a while since we slept well,” said Shahjahan Dar, a resident of Rawalpora. “We are thankful to Almighty and everyone else who played a role in ending the war.” Another resident, Abdul Aziz of Uri, echoed these sentiments, stating, “We saw drones and rockets flying all over last night even after the ceasefire was announced. We are praying that this ceasefire is permanent but we want to wait a couple of days.”
The ceasefire marks a significant development in the ongoing conflict between India and Pakistan and offers a glimmer of hope for lasting peace in the region. However, the lingering concerns and cautious optimism highlight the fragility of the situation and the need for continued vigilance.
