Sun May 11 06:30:00 UTC 2025: ## NEET 2025: Tougher Exam Expected to Lower Cut-Off Marks
**New Delhi, May 10, 2025** – The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) UG 2025, held on May 4th, proved significantly more challenging than previous years, leading experts to predict lower cut-off marks across all categories. A shorter exam time (20 minutes less) and particularly difficult Physics numerical problems are cited as major contributing factors.
This year also saw a surprising decrease in the number of NEET aspirants, down by almost 100,000. This, combined with an increase in available medical college seats, may improve admission chances for those who wrote the exam.
Experts offer varying predictions for the cut-off scores. Nitin Vijay of Motion Education anticipates a range of 595-605 for the General category, while Rohit Gupta of PhysicsWallah projects a lower range of 540-560. Both agree that the Biology section was the easiest, while Physics presented the greatest challenge. Harish Butle of Deeper NGO highlighted the variability of cut-offs across states, estimating a range of 490-500 for Maharashtra’s state quota seats.
The consensus among experts is that the increased difficulty and reduced time allocated for the exam will significantly impact the overall scores. The decrease in the number of applicants further contributes to the expectation of lower cut-off marks.
