Sat May 10 18:25:42 UTC 2025: ## Murshidabad Violence: Key Arrest Made in Father-Son Murder Case

**Kolkata, West Bengal –** West Bengal Police have made a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the Murshidabad communal violence that occurred on April 11th and 12th. Hajrat Ali, alias Fitu, a prime accused in the murder of a father and son during the riots, was arrested on Saturday, May 10th, in Pakur, Jharkhand. The arrest was made by a joint team of Samsherganj police and the Special Investigation Team (SIT).

The violence erupted in protest against the recently passed Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025. Harogobind Das and his son Chandan Das were killed outside their home in Jafrabad during the unrest. The arrest of Mr. Ali marks the 11th arrest in this specific case, bringing the total number of arrests related to the Murshidabad violence to 345. Sixty FIRs have been lodged in connection with the incidents, which saw widespread property damage.

The Das family had previously petitioned the Calcutta High Court for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the murder. The investigation into the violence continues.
