Sun May 11 04:42:58 UTC 2025: ## US-Iran Nuclear Talks Resume Amidst Tensions

**Dubai, May 11, 2025** – Top negotiators from Iran and the United States will resume talks on Sunday in Muscat, Oman, to address the ongoing dispute over Iran’s nuclear program. The talks, mediated by Oman, come as Washington hardens its stance ahead of President Trump’s Middle East visit.

While both sides claim a preference for diplomacy, significant disagreements persist. US envoy Steve Witkoff stated a hardline position, demanding the complete dismantlement of Iran’s nuclear facilities, effectively ending its uranium enrichment program. He warned that unproductive talks would lead to alternative measures.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi countered, asserting that Iran will not compromise on its nuclear rights. Although Tehran is open to negotiating some curbs on its nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief, ending enrichment or surrendering its uranium stockpile are non-negotiable. A senior Iranian official anonymously criticized the discrepancy between the U.S.’s public statements and its negotiating positions.

Further complicating matters, Iran refuses to negotiate its ballistic missile program and demands guarantees that the U.S. will not abandon any future agreement. President Trump, who withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal and reimposed sanctions, is scheduled to visit Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE from May 13-16. Iran’s continued enrichment of uranium to near weapons-grade levels further fuels international concern. The Sunday meeting, originally planned for Rome, was postponed for logistical reasons.
