**Hyderabad, May 11, 2025** – Four men, including a serving Andhra Pradesh police constable and a Telangana jail warden, were arrested by Miyapur police for a series of cigarette robberies. The suspects, identified as Gayini Srikanth (jail warden), Chidiri Amarnath (police constable), Md Imran Khan (delivery boy), and Vasam Srikanth (painter), targeted a cigarette distributor on November 28, 2024, posing as police officers and conducting a fake narcotics check. The gang made off with the cigarettes after stopping the distributor near Tellapur Government School.
Police investigations revealed that the gang’s activities extend beyond this incident, linking them to at least four similar robberies this year in various Hyderabad locations. The main suspect, Gayini Srikanth, reportedly accrued significant gambling debts, losing ₹6 crore in cash and property, which motivated him to commit these crimes.
Interestingly, three of the arrested men – Srikanth, Amarnath, and Imran – were previously arrested by Jeedimetla police in 2021, subsequently returning to their jobs after a period of suspension and remand. The arrests highlight a concerning trend of law enforcement personnel involved in criminal activity. The investigation is ongoing.
