**Salem, Tamil Nadu, May 11, 2025** – A double murder has shocked the town of Jahir Ammapalayam, near Salem, with an elderly couple found dead in their home on Sunday. R. Baskaran (65) and his wife, B. Vidhya, were discovered with hack injuries and succumbed to their wounds en route to the hospital. Police investigation suggests robbery as a motive, with the couple’s gold chains missing. The Suramangalam police have launched a special investigation team to apprehend the culprits.

In separate news, Salem District Cyber Crime police have arrested two individuals, Maileswaran (19) and Adithya (20), for allegedly defrauding R. Prabakaran (28) of ₹94 lakh through a Telegram investment scam. The accused were apprehended in Coimbatore and charged with cheating.

Meanwhile, the Forest Department conducted a raid in Perumampatti, arresting five individuals for hunting wild boars. C. Siva, M. Mohanavel, R. Anand, A. Palanisamy, and S. Mohanraj were fined ₹50,000 each, and the confiscated meat, mobile phones, and knives were seized as evidence. The arrests highlight the ongoing battle against wildlife poaching in the region.
