**GUWAHATI, INDIA (May 11, 2025)** – The counting of votes for the Assam Panchayat Elections 2025 began this morning under heavy security. The two-phase election, held on May 2nd and 7th, saw a 74.71% voter turnout across the state’s 27 districts. This election marks the first time constituencies have been redrawn following delimitation.
Thousands of seats were contested, including 21,920 Gram Panchayat (GP) seats, 2,192 Anchalik Parishad (AP) seats, and 397 Zilla Parishad (ZP) seats. A significant number of seats (1,289) were won uncontested. The election saw robust participation, with 1.80 crore eligible voters.
While the counting process, which began at 8 am, is expected to continue into tomorrow, officials from the Assam State Election Commission (ASEC) have assured that adequate security measures are in place at all counting centers to prevent any disruptions, following instances of violence during the polling period. The results are eagerly awaited across the state.
