Sun May 11 14:25:42 UTC 2025: ## Chittoor Gears Up for Three-Day Ganga Jatara Festival
**CHITTOOR, INDIA (May 11, 2025)** – The town of Chittoor is preparing for its annual three-day Ganga Jatara festival, honoring Goddess Gangamma, which begins Monday. This centuries-old tradition draws devotees from across Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka. Unlike temple-centered festivals, the Ganga Jatara features a clay and turmeric idol of the goddess installed in the middle of Bazar Street, culminating in its ceremonial immersion in the Kattamanchi tank on the final day.
The festival is characterized by vibrant processions, music, dance, and ritual offerings, including ‘Ambali,’ a ragi porridge. To ensure a peaceful celebration, approximately 800 police personnel will be deployed, with special attention given to traffic management and electrical safety. The Ganga Jatara will be simultaneously celebrated in several other locations, including Obanapalle, Santhapeta, Doddipalle, Murakambattu, Greamspet, and Kongareddipalle.
