Sun May 11 03:46:18 UTC 2025: ## China Urges Ceasefire Between India and Pakistan After Pahalgam Attack

**NEW DELHI, May 11, 2025** – Following a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, China has actively mediated between India and Pakistan to de-escalate the conflict. The attack, which claimed 26 lives and had cross-border links, triggered four days of intense cross-border fighting involving drones and missiles.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi spoke separately with India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar. Mr. Wang expressed deep concern over the escalating situation and urged both nations to exercise restraint and resolve their differences through dialogue. He emphasized the importance of a lasting ceasefire, stating it is in the fundamental interest of both countries and aligns with the international community’s aspirations. China also condemned the Pahalgam attack and voiced its opposition to all forms of terrorism.

Mr. Doval explained to Mr. Wang that India’s counter-terrorism actions were a necessary response to the significant casualties suffered in the attack, but that war was not India’s desired outcome. He assured Mr. Wang that India would remain committed to the ceasefire agreement reached on May 10, which halted all military actions on land, air, and sea.

Mr. Dar conveyed Pakistan’s willingness to maintain the ceasefire while asserting that any violation of its sovereignty or territorial integrity would necessitate a response. Mr. Wang expressed China’s support for Pakistan’s counter-terrorism efforts.

Prior to the ceasefire agreement, China had already issued a statement strongly urging both India and Pakistan to de-escalate tensions and pursue peaceful conflict resolution. China’s continued mediation efforts highlight its significant role in maintaining regional stability.
