**New Delhi, May 11, 2025** – A fragile ceasefire between India and Pakistan collapsed within hours of its announcement, resulting in the death of a Border Security Force (BSF) officer and renewed tensions along the border.

Following intense overnight negotiations, mediated by US President Donald Trump, both countries agreed to a comprehensive ceasefire, effective from 5 PM on May 10th. This was confirmed by both the US President and Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, and subsequently by India’s Foreign Secretary, Vikram Misri. Misri stated that the Pakistani Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) initiated the contact.

However, just four hours later, Pakistan violated the agreement, launching a major drone attack across the International Border. The attack targeted Indian military posts in various sectors, including RS Pura, where a BSF Sub-Inspector, Mohammad Intiyaz, was killed. Several other BSF personnel suffered injuries. Simultaneously, explosions and intense firing were reported in multiple areas including Srinagar, Pathankot, Jaisalmer, Udhampur, and Barmer, plunging these regions into darkness as lights were switched off as a precautionary measure.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed his outrage on X, highlighting the ongoing explosions in Srinagar and questioning the ceasefire’s effectiveness. The Indian Army confirmed downing several drones launched from Pakistan.

India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri condemned the violation, stating that the incidents are being taken “very seriously” and that Pakistan would face appropriate repercussions. While the Sindh water agreement remains suspended, and visa restrictions continue, the Indian government has made it clear that any future terrorist attacks within India will be considered an act of war. Prime Minister Modi reportedly emphasized that the ceasefire is conditional on Pakistan ending cross-border terrorism.

The sudden reversal casts doubt on the longevity of the ceasefire agreement and raises serious concerns about the future of Indo-Pak relations. The incident underscores the volatile nature of the border and the continued challenges in establishing lasting peace between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
