Sun May 11 15:29:07 UTC 2025: ## Prison Inmate Continues Drug Operation Via Phone, Raising Security Concerns in Bengaluru
**Bengaluru, May 11, 2025** – A 32-year-old Kerala man, Amir Khan, arrested for drug peddling in Bengaluru last November, allegedly continued his operation from inside the Central Prison for the past year, using a cell phone. This revelation has prompted serious questions about the prison’s security measures, particularly the effectiveness of its jammers.
Khan, arrested by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) in Amruthahalli, was initially found with MDMA crystals worth ₹71 lakh. Despite being remanded in judicial custody, he reportedly directed a drug operation from within the prison complex via WhatsApp, using a “drop location” method to distribute drugs.
A recent raid, prompted by the arrest of another peddler who confessed to working for Khan, led to the seizure of ₹8.7 lakh from bank accounts linked to Khan’s relatives. The money, considered proceeds of crime, was seized under the Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators (Forfeiture of Property) Act, 1976. Although Khan initially challenged the seizure, his appeal was rejected by the court.
The incident highlights a significant lapse in prison security, raising concerns about the ability of inmates to access and utilize cell phones despite the presence of jammers. The CCB investigation is ongoing.
