Sun May 11 12:58:30 UTC 2025: ## Mysuru Environmentalists Launch Plan to Make City a Tree Conservation Model

**Mysuru, Karnataka –** Following public outrage over the recent felling of 40 trees for road widening, environmentalists in Mysuru have launched an ambitious plan to make the city a model for tree conservation. A meeting convened Sunday by the Mysore Grahakara Parishat (MGP) and tree expert Dr. S. Natesh, outlined a multi-pronged strategy involving short, medium, and long-term goals.

Dr. Natesh, author of “Iconic Trees of India,” emphasized the need for a collaborative approach, bringing together scientists, educators, students, and legal experts under a unified platform. The plan includes a targeted educational campaign in schools and colleges, utilizing street plays and dance-dramas to highlight the importance of trees. Social media influencers will also be engaged to spread awareness and encourage public participation.

Inspired by Uttarakhand’s successful “Rakshasutra” movement, which saw citizens pledging to protect trees, Dr. Natesh suggested a similar initiative to resonate with the local community. Further proposals include creating a digital registry of Mysuru’s iconic trees, appointing local tree wardens, and developing “tree tourism” around heritage trees. The plan also calls for the establishment of a Mysuru Tree Festival, drawing inspiration from similar events globally.

Organizers expressed confidence that these combined efforts will establish Mysuru as a leader in tree conservation. The meeting was attended by representatives from various NGOs and environmental groups.
