**Karaikudi, India (May 12, 2025)** – Police in Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu, have seized 27,000 kilograms of ration rice intended for the Public Distribution System (PDS). The rice was discovered Saturday night in a lorry stopped during a routine patrol near Patharakudi. Authorities believe the rice was being diverted from various PDS shops to a private mill in Pallathur for polishing and subsequent resale at inflated prices. One suspect, 26-year-old Arunpandi of Patharakudi, has been arrested. The seized rice and the lorry driver will be transferred to the Civil Supplies – CID for further investigation.
