Sun May 11 12:00:00 UTC 2025: ## India and Pakistan Agree to Ceasefire Following Airstrikes

**NEW DELHI** – India and Pakistan have agreed to a ceasefire, ending a period of heightened tensions sparked by a recent attack in Pulwama. Indian officials claim that a series of retaliatory airstrikes on May 9th, codenamed “Operation Sindhur,” served as a turning point, leading to the agreement.

These airstrikes, targeting terrorist infrastructure within Pakistan, reportedly resulted in the destruction of numerous bases and the deaths of over 100 militants. Pakistan responded with attempted cross-border shelling, missile, and drone attacks, all of which India claims to have successfully repelled.

Sources within the Indian government indicate that the May 9th airstrikes significantly impacted Pakistan, prompting a call for dialogue. Following communication between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, General Asim Munir, Rubio contacted Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, relaying Pakistan’s willingness to negotiate. India stipulated that any talks should be solely between the Directors-General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries, without third-party involvement.

Pakistan’s DGMO subsequently requested a meeting with his Indian counterpart on May 10th at 1 PM. This followed India’s earlier notification on May 7th of the airstrikes, to which Pakistan initially did not respond.

The ceasefire, confirmed Saturday evening by Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, came into effect at 5:00 PM IST. Both sides have been instructed to cease all forms of military action across land, air, and sea. The agreement, reached during a phone call between the DGMOs at 3:35 PM IST, marks a de-escalation in the conflict.
