Sat May 10 15:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Ceasefire Violated Hours After Agreement: India Responds to Pakistani Attacks
**NEW DELHI** – A ceasefire agreed upon between India and Pakistan Saturday evening was violated within hours, leading to renewed tensions along the border. Pakistani forces initiated shelling in the Akhnoor, Rajouri, and RS Pura sectors of Jammu and Kashmir, according to Indian officials. Simultaneously, drone attacks were reported in Baramulla, and ceasefire violations occurred in the Palanwala sector.
The Indian Army has been ordered to retaliate strongly to the Pakistani aggression. Several cities implemented precautionary blackouts following reports of the ceasefire violations. The Border Security Force (BSF) confirmed the Pakistani shelling and stated that they are engaging in retaliatory action. All border sectors are on high alert, with instructions to respond swiftly and decisively to any infiltration or attack. Anti-drone systems were deployed after Pakistani drones were sighted over Srinagar and Udhampur.
The blackouts extended to Punjab, with areas in Barnala and Sangrur experiencing power cuts from 9 pm to 11 pm. Similar measures were taken in Amritsar and Chandigarh, with officials citing inputs from the Air Force bases in Pathankot and Adampur as the reason. Residents were urged to remain indoors and keep lights off. The Bathinda district administration appealed for calm, assuring residents that they are monitoring the situation closely.
Earlier in the day, the Ministry of External Affairs announced a ceasefire agreement between the two countries, effective 5 pm Saturday, covering land, air, and sea. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar confirmed the agreement, emphasizing India’s unwavering stance against all forms of terrorism. The agreement was reached following a phone call between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries. Further talks are scheduled for May 12th.
