Fri May 09 23:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Trump Urges De-escalation Amidst India-Pakistan Tensions Following Indian Strikes

**Washington D.C.** – Following India’s “Operation Sindoor,” a retaliatory strike targeting nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) early Wednesday, President Donald Trump has called for an immediate de-escalation of the escalating conflict between India and Pakistan. The strikes were launched in response to the April 22nd Pahalgam massacre, which killed 26 people, mostly tourists.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated Friday that President Trump recognizes the long-standing tensions between the two nations but desires a swift resolution. She confirmed that Secretary of State Rubio, along with National Security Advisor Marco Rubio, have been actively engaged in diplomatic efforts, communicating with leaders from both India and Pakistan to achieve de-escalation.

Secretary Rubio separately spoke with Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday, urging both sides to de-escalate and reiterating the need for Pakistan to actively counter support for terrorist groups. Minister Jaishankar affirmed India’s commitment to firmly counter any escalation attempts by Pakistan. The White House emphasized President Trump’s strong relationships with both leaders as a valuable asset in mediating the crisis.
