Sat May 10 13:15:55 UTC 2025: ## India and Pakistan Agree to Immediate Ceasefire After US-Mediated Talks

**New Delhi/Islamabad, May 10, 2025** – A dramatic shift in the escalating conflict between India and Pakistan resulted in a full and immediate ceasefire announced late Saturday evening. The agreement, brokered by the United States after several hours of intense negotiations, took effect at 5:00 PM IST.

US President Donald Trump took to Truth Social earlier in the day to announce the breakthrough, stating that India and Pakistan had agreed to a “FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE.” This was swiftly followed by confirmation from both nations. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio echoed the announcement, adding that both countries have also agreed to initiate talks on a broader range of issues at a neutral location. He commended Prime Ministers Modi and Sharif for their decision.

The ceasefire was initiated following a call between the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries at 3:35 PM IST. India’s Ministry of External Affairs confirmed the agreement, specifying that the cessation of hostilities applies to land, air, and sea. Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also confirmed the ceasefire, emphasizing Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace.

While celebrating the ceasefire, Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar reiterated India’s unwavering stance against terrorism. The DGMOs are scheduled to speak again on Monday at noon. The sudden and dramatic turnaround from intense hostilities to a ceasefire within a half-hour period marks a significant development in the long-standing tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
