**New Delhi, May 10, 2025** – India and Pakistan have agreed to a ceasefire, effective 5 PM IST today, following days of intense military exchanges. The agreement was reached after a phone call between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries. Further talks are scheduled for May 12th.
The ceasefire comes after India launched “Operation Sindoor” in retaliation for a terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22nd, which killed 25 Indians and a Nepali citizen. India confirmed the elimination of five high-profile terrorist leaders during the operation. Pakistan, however, denied India’s claims of destroying its military infrastructure and accused India of spreading misinformation. Wing Commander Vyomika Singh of the Indian Ministry of Defence stated that Pakistan’s claims were false and that Pakistan suffered significant losses in both land and air engagements.
The conflict saw Pakistan utilizing drones, long-range weapons, and fighter aircraft to target civilian areas and military infrastructure along the western border, prompting India to conduct precision strikes on military targets, including air bases. Pakistan also temporarily closed its airspace but has since reopened it for all flights.
In response to the heightened security situation, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has increased security at 69 Indian airports. The Jammu and Kashmir government also issued an advisory, stating its full preparedness for any contingency.
India has warned that any future act of terror will be considered an act of war. This strong stance, coupled with the successful Operation Sindoor, is seen as a message to Pakistan.
Separately, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted an early arrival of the southwest monsoon in Kerala, potentially as early as May 27th. News website The Wire reported that its website was unblocked after it removed an article at the request of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
On the global stage, Ukraine offered a 30-day ceasefire with Russia, while US and Chinese officials initiated talks in Switzerland to de-escalate trade tensions. Finally, a Soviet-era spacecraft that failed to reach Venus decades ago re-entered Earth’s atmosphere.
