**TIRUCHI, May 10, 2025** – A seminar held in Tiruchi on Saturday highlighted the critical need for improved safety measures and training for contract workers in Tamil Nadu’s factories. Organized by the Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health and the Tamil Nadu Chapter of the National Safety Council, the event drew nearly 450 participants from across the region.

Speakers emphasized the disproportionate number of accidents involving contract workers, often due to inadequate training and supervision. S. Ananth, Director of Industrial Safety and Health, stressed the importance of using proper safety equipment and highlighted how seemingly minor errors can lead to major accidents. He urged authorities to thoroughly investigate accidents to identify root causes and implement preventative measures.

R. Siddarthan, Additional Director of Industrial Safety and Health, underscored the responsibility of industries to fully integrate contract workers into their safety programs through comprehensive training and robust supervision. Experts from various agencies provided detailed presentations on fire safety, emergency preparedness, electrical safety, risk control, and the importance of a healthy lifestyle for industrial workers. The seminar stressed the crucial role of supervisors in ensuring safety awareness and the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) amongst contract workers.
