PALAKKAD, India (May 10, 2025) – Three writers, E. Santhosh Kumar, Santhosh Echikkanam, and Shafi Poovathinkal, have been awarded the prestigious O.V. Vijayan Memorial Literary Awards 2024. Kumar received the award for his novel *Jnanabharam*, Echikkanam for his short story anthology *Kavana*, and Poovathinkal for his unpublished young writer’s story, *Raqeebinum Atheedinum Idayile Nunakal*.
The awards, announced Saturday, were selected from over 200 submissions by a 20-member jury after a rigorous screening process. The awards for the novel and short story collection include a plaque, citation, and a ₹25,000 cash prize, while the young writer’s award offers ₹10,000, a plaque, and a citation.
O.V. Vijayan Smaraka Samiti secretary T.R. Ajayan noted the significance of the young writer’s award, despite the modest prize money, due to its association with the renowned author. However, the May 18th award ceremony may be postponed due to rising border tensions, Ajayan added.
