**NEW DELHI, May 9, 2025** – India successfully thwarted a series of drone attacks launched from Pakistan on Friday, May 9th, 2025. The attacks targeted at least 26 locations across several Indian states, ranging from Jammu and Kashmir to Gujarat. While Pakistani authorities have yet to comment, Indian officials allege the drones were attempting to deploy weapons near civilian and military sites.
The Indian Air Defence System intercepted all incoming drones. However, one armed drone did manage to breach defenses briefly in Firozpur, Punjab, injuring three members of a local family who are now hospitalized.
Targeted locations included Baramulla, Srinagar, Awantipora, Nagrota, Jammu, Firozpur, Pathankot, Fazilka, Lalgadh Jatta, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Bhuj, Kuarbet, and Lakhi Nal in various states. Authorities maintain a heightened security presence and are conducting investigations into the incident.
In response to the attacks, the Gujarat government has issued a temporary ban on the use of drones and fireworks until May 15th, citing heightened security concerns. Citizens, particularly in border regions, are advised to remain vigilant and minimize unnecessary outdoor activity. While authorities emphasize there is no cause for panic, the situation underscores the continuing tension between India and Pakistan. The Indian government has not yet issued an official statement on potential retaliatory measures.
