Fri May 09 17:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Pakistan Launches Cross-Border Shelling and Drone Attacks Across India

**New Delhi, [Date]** – India reported widespread cross-border shelling and multiple drone attacks originating from Pakistan on Friday evening, triggering a heightened security alert across several states. The attacks targeted multiple sectors along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB), causing panic among border residents.

The most intense shelling was reported in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir, with subsequent attacks in Poonch and Kupwara. Mortar shelling also occurred in the Nowgam-Handwara sector. Indian forces responded effectively, according to reports, engaging in retaliatory fire.

The situation escalated significantly with at least 26 confirmed drone attacks across various regions, including Baramulla, Srinagar, Awantipora, Nagrota, Jammu, Faridkot, Pathankot, Fazilka, Lalgadh Jatta, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Bhuj, Kuarbet, and Lakhi Nala. One armed drone attack in Faridkot targeted a civilian area, resulting in serious injuries to a local family. All drones were reportedly shot down by Indian defense forces.

At least 15 drones were sighted in 5 separate areas in Amritsar, with most neutralized. A red alert was issued, restricting civilian movement. Nine Pakistani drones were reportedly downed in Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan, with another confirmed in Barmer. A drone neutralized in Firozpur, Punjab, dropped explosive material near a house, causing a fire that was extinguished by residents. An attempted drone attack on the Awantipora airbase was also thwarted.

The Defense Minister has instructed the Indian Army to take strong retaliatory action against the Pakistani military. Seven sensitive locations across the country are reportedly on high alert, including Samba, Jammu, and Pathankot where shelling and blackouts were reported. Military activity increased significantly around the areas of the attacks.

Videos of the drone attacks have emerged showing a drone intercepted and destroyed by an interceptor missile. Security forces initiated search operations following the incidents. Suspicious drone activity was also reported in Pokharan, Rajasthan and Samba, with all incidents successfully countered.

The increased cross-border activity prompted the temporary closure of 24 airports across India, extended until May 15th, impacting domestic flights. This closure primarily affects airports in border and sensitive areas, including Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Bhuj, Jamnagar, and Rajkot.

While no casualties have been officially confirmed at the time of publishing, the situation remains tense, with security forces on high alert and border villages prepared for further attacks. Prime Minister Modi met with retired armed forces personnel to discuss the escalating tensions.
