Fri May 09 20:30:04 UTC 2025: ## Kerala CM Defends Development Record Amidst Debt Criticism

**Kannur, Kerala – May 10, 2025** – Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday defended his government’s development record, refuting opposition claims that the state is facing a debt crisis. Speaking at a Left Democratic Front rally, Mr. Vijayan cited figures showing a decrease in the gap between public debt and domestic production, from 36% to 34%. He also highlighted the high expenditure on project implementation (96.23% of budgeted funds) and local development projects (110.97%). Mr. Vijayan attributed Kerala’s economic growth, from ₹55,000 crore to ₹1.4 lakh crore in total income, to the LDF’s policies, contrasting it with the alleged lack of comparable challenges faced by previous governments.

The Chief Minister further criticized the central government for its lack of support during various crises, including floods and the pandemic, alleging that the Union government blocked aid offered by Malayalee expatriates, a claim he contrasted with Prime Minister Modi’s acceptance of foreign assistance during his tenure as Gujarat’s Chief Minister. He accused the opposition of complicity with the Centre, stating that their silence and blame-game tactics aim to deprive Kerala of its rightful aid.
