Sat May 10 05:30:00 UTC 2025: ## India and Pakistan Exchange Missile Strikes, Escalating Kashmir Conflict

**ISLAMABAD/NEW DELHI** – Tensions between India and Pakistan have reached a critical point following a series of cross-border missile strikes and drone attacks. The escalating conflict, sparked by a massacre of tourists in Indian-administered Kashmir last month, has plunged the region into its worst crisis in decades.

On Saturday, Pakistan claimed India launched missiles at key military bases, including one near Islamabad. Pakistan immediately retaliated, launching “Operation Bunyanun Marsoos,” targeting what it claims were Indian air bases used in the initial strikes. The Pakistani military reported hitting multiple targets in India and Indian-administered Kashmir, including a BrahMos missile storage site, using its Fatah-1 missile system. These claims remain unverified by independent sources.

India’s military confirmed intercepting and destroying multiple Pakistani drones and munitions launched across its western border, stating that the “blatant escalation” continues. The Indian army also reported engaging and destroying armed drones spotted over a military base in Amritsar. An Indian official told CNN that all Pakistani attacks are being met with appropriate responses.

The conflict has resulted in casualties on both sides. Pakistan reported at least 36 deaths and dozens of injuries in Pakistan-administered Kashmir since Wednesday, blaming India for deliberately targeting civilians. India has also reported civilian casualties in Indian-administered Kashmir, along with military losses, although specific numbers are yet to be officially released. Hundreds of civilians have been evacuated from border areas in both regions.

The international community is urging restraint. The G7 foreign ministers and the EU issued a joint statement condemning the initial terrorist attack and calling for immediate de-escalation and direct dialogue. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio offered US mediation, while Saudi Arabia’s minister of state for foreign affairs visited both New Delhi and Islamabad in a diplomatic effort.

The crisis has also impacted civilian life and sporting events. Pakistan temporarily closed its airspace, and several airlines canceled flights to Indian cities experiencing blackouts. Both the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Pakistan Super League (PSL) cricket tournaments have been suspended or relocated due to the ongoing conflict. The release of a Bollywood film featuring a Pakistani actor has also been affected.

While both countries continue to accuse each other of initiating escalatory actions, the situation remains volatile and raises serious concerns about regional stability given both nations’ nuclear capabilities. Pakistan’s Prime Minister has called a meeting of the National Command Authority, responsible for nuclear and missile policy, highlighting the gravity of the situation. The lack of independent verification of claims from both sides underscores the need for immediate de-escalation and a peaceful resolution.
