Fri May 09 19:30:00 UTC 2025: **LPGA Mizuho Americas Championship: Thitikul Takes Early Lead**
Liberty National, NJ – May 9, 2025 – Thailand’s Jeeno Thitikul stormed to an eight-under-par 64, securing a two-shot lead in the first round of the LPGA Mizuho Americas Championship. Thitikul, the world number two, attributed her success to improved putting, following a disappointing performance at the Chevron Championship. She focused on her putting technique during a week off, resulting in her lowest opening round score since 2022.
Chasing Thitikul are Celine Boutier of France and South Korean Choi Hye-jin, both shooting six-under 66. Boutier’s round included a remarkable run of five consecutive birdies, while Choi carded six birdies without a bogey. Ryu Hae-ran, fresh off a victory last week, led a group of ten players at five-under 67. Defending champion Nelly Korda finished at four-under 68.
The forecast for the remainder of the tournament calls for partly cloudy skies today with highs of 79°F and south winds, followed by cloudy conditions tonight with lows of 48°F and westerly winds.
