Sat May 10 16:30:00 UTC 2025: ## IPL 2025 Resumption Imminent Following India-Pakistan Ceasefire

**NEW DELHI** – The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is poised for a swift resumption following a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, confirmed after a post by US President Donald Trump. The tournament was suspended last week due to escalating tensions between the two nations.

A top official from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has indicated that the IPL will likely recommence shortly. The BCCI is expected to hold a meeting on Sunday or Monday to finalize the resumption plan. The official stated that, with hostilities ceasing, matches could be held across India, not limited to South India as previously considered. The BCCI will factor in the availability of foreign players, some of whom left the country during the heightened tensions.

At the time of suspension, 57 matches of the IPL 2025 season had been completed. The 58th match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals was interrupted on May 8th after 10.1 overs. The BCCI has yet to decide whether this match will be replayed.

The remaining schedule includes 12 league matches and four playoff matches. The playoffs were initially scheduled for Hyderabad and Kolkata.

The IPL has faced disruptions in the past due to various factors, including the 2009 general elections (when the tournament was held in South Africa), the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021 (leading to relocation and schedule adjustments), and the 2024 general elections (which necessitated a two-part schedule). This latest interruption highlights the IPL’s vulnerability to geopolitical events and the complex logistical challenges involved in organizing such a large-scale sporting event.
