Fri May 09 17:10:00 UTC 2025: ## India registers strong protest against IMF loan to Pakistan
**New Delhi:** India has strongly opposed the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) loan to Pakistan, abstaining from a recent vote on the matter. While the IMF’s voting system doesn’t allow for a direct “no” vote, India’s abstention served as a powerful demonstration of its disapproval.
India’s objections are threefold. Firstly, it questioned Pakistan’s repeated reliance on IMF bailouts, highlighting the country’s 28 loans in the past 35 years, including four in the last five, without demonstrable economic reforms.
Secondly, India expressed concern over the pervasive influence of the Pakistani military on the economy, hindering transparency and accountability. This, India argued, makes effective economic reform unlikely, rendering IMF funds ineffective.
Finally, and most significantly, India vehemently opposed providing financial assistance to a country it accuses of actively supporting cross-border terrorism. India warned that such actions could damage the IMF’s credibility and set a dangerous precedent.
While Pakistan secured the loan, India’s abstention underscored its firm stance against repeatedly bailing out nations that sponsor instability and terrorism. The move serves as a clear message to the international community that such practices are unsustainable.
