**Chennai, May 10, 2025** – The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has announced a new online postgraduate diploma course aimed at reducing workplace accidents in India’s manufacturing, mining, and energy sectors. The program, offered by the Centre for Outreach and Digital Education, addresses a critical need highlighted by a 2024 IndustriALL Global Union report, which documented at least 240 accidents resulting in over 400 fatalities and 850 serious injuries. These accidents were largely attributed to inadequate safety procedures and a lack of knowledge regarding essential safety practices.

The course, designed for working professionals, will enhance participants’ skills and understanding of safety protocols. Eligibility requires a B.E. or B.Tech degree in relevant engineering disciplines or an M.Sc. in Chemistry with two years of work experience. Applications are open until May 31st, with an entrance exam scheduled for July 13th. The trimester-based program allows completion within one to two years.
