Sat May 10 14:29:51 UTC 2025: ## India and Pakistan Agree to Ceasefire After US-Mediated Talks
**NEW DELHI, May 10, 2025** – India and Pakistan have agreed to a ceasefire, effective 5 PM today, following days of intense cross-border military action. The announcement, initially made by US President Donald Trump, was later confirmed by Indian officials. The ceasefire was reached after a late-night negotiation mediated by the United States, a surprising intervention given the US administration’s previous stated policy of non-involvement in the conflict.
The agreement was reached during a call between the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries at 3:30 PM. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated that all firing and military action on land, sea, and air will cease. The DGMOs will hold another meeting on Monday at 12 PM.
While announcing the ceasefire, Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar stressed that India’s “firm and uncompromising stance against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations” remains unchanged. Wing Commander Vyomika Singh echoed this sentiment, warning that any future escalation from Pakistan will be met with a decisive response. Sources indicate the ceasefire is conditional, and India’s diplomatic actions against Pakistan remain unaffected.
The escalation began after a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, which killed 26 people, mostly tourists. India blamed Pakistan for the attack, a claim Pakistan denies. This led to India launching “Operation Sindoor,” targeting nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Pakistan retaliated with drone and missile attacks, which India claims to have repelled.
The US’s involvement marks a significant shift in its stance. Just a day prior, US Vice President JD Vance had emphasized the US’s intention to remain uninvolved in the conflict. President Trump’s announcement of the ceasefire caught many by surprise. Despite the ceasefire, India remains vigilant and prepared to defend its sovereignty, officials stressed.
