Sat May 10 16:36:40 UTC 2025: ## Kochi Municipality Transforms Former Dumping Ground into Sports Facility
**KOCHI, KERALA – May 11, 2025** – The Eloor municipality in Kochi has unveiled a new artificial turf football field, built on land previously used as an illegal dumping ground. The ₹60 lakh facility, located in Kuzhikandam, is part of a larger Ambedkar Grama Panchayat project that also includes a children’s park.
According to municipal chairperson A.D. Sujil, the area was a source of significant contention until 2015, when the council took action to shut down the illegal dumping site and implement proper waste management practices. The transformation of the land into a recreational space marks a significant improvement for the community.
The turf will be open to the public from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. The official inauguration, presided over by Minister for Industries P. Rajeeve, is scheduled for Monday, May 12, 2025.
