Sat May 10 16:11:48 UTC 2025: ## Tiruchi MP Pushes for Underpasses to Ease Highway Congestion
**TIRUCHI, May 10, 2025** – Tiruchi MP Durai Vaiko has urged the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to expedite the construction of vehicular underpasses at two accident-prone intersections on the Tiruchi-Chennai Highway. Following an inspection of the Sanjeevi Nagar intersection and the “Y” corner junction near the Kollidam River, Mr. Vaiko highlighted the significant traffic congestion caused by the high volume of highway and local traffic.
The Sanjeevi Nagar intersection, in particular, has become a major bottleneck due to the merging of highway traffic and vehicles entering the city via Odathurai Road, often leading to traffic pile-ups despite the presence of traffic signals. Similar issues plague the “Y” corner junction, where vehicles traveling to Srirangam from both directions on the highway experience difficulties.
NHAI officials assured Mr. Vaiko that plans for underpasses at both locations are underway. The MP, however, stressed the urgent need for swift action to provide a lasting solution to the persistent traffic problems and improve road safety.
