Fri May 09 23:40:00 UTC 2025: ## India Repels Massive Pakistani Drone Attack, Several Casualties Reported

**Jammu/Srinagar, India –** Pakistan launched a large-scale drone attack across the India-Pakistan border on Friday night, targeting multiple locations including Srinagar Airport and Awantipora airbase. The Indian Army successfully neutralized numerous drones and thwarted the attempted incursions, preventing significant damage.

The attacks, which began after a period of relative calm during the day, involved hundreds of drones launched from multiple points along the border, from Baramulla to Bhuj. Explosions and gunfire were reported in several border regions including Jammu, Firozpur, Pathankot, Jaisalmer, Badmer, and Bhuj, prompting widespread blackouts as a precautionary measure. Loud sirens blared across several cities, and residents were urged to remain indoors.

The Indian military reported shooting down approximately 300-400 drones, with initial reports suggesting that some of the drones were of Turkish origin (“Aegisguard Songer”). At least seven terrorists attempting to infiltrate across the border in Jammu were killed by Indian security forces. One civilian casualty was also reported in Poonch district due to Pakistani shelling.

The Indian Air Force and Army responded swiftly, deploying their air defense systems to intercept the incoming drones and thwart the attack. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with the chiefs of the three armed forces, along with Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, to review the situation and coordinate the response. Further meetings were held to review security measures. The government authorized the deployment of Territorial Army (TA) if necessary.

Multiple airports in northern and western India temporarily suspended civilian flights. Several cities experienced blackouts to protect vital infrastructure. Authorities increased security measures around airports, military installations, railway stations, markets, and other public places.

Pakistan denied responsibility for the attacks, but India’s Ministry of External Affairs strongly condemned the actions, stating that Pakistan continues to use drones and missiles to target Indian infrastructure and citizens. India also voiced strong opposition to a proposed loan from the IMF to Pakistan, citing concerns that the funds could be used to support terrorism.

The intensity of the attacks and India’s resolute response have significantly escalated tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours. The situation remains tense, and heightened security measures continue along the border. Forensic investigations are underway on drone debris to determine the full extent of the attack.
