KOLKATA, May 10, 2025 – Following India’s Operation Sindoor military action in Pakistan, the Border Security Force (BSF) has heightened its security measures along the India-Bangladesh border in North Bengal. BSF Additional Director General (ADG) Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal visited the North Bengal Frontier Headquarters on May 8th to review operational preparedness and the current security situation.

Aggarwal, during his visit, emphasized the need for increased vigilance to prevent trans-border crimes. He was briefed on challenges along the border, including those in the riverine areas of the Teesta River and the Dahagram-Angarpota enclave, and inspected electronic surveillance systems. The ADG’s visit followed the successful apprehension of nine Bangladeshi nationals by BSF troops in Uttar Dinajpur district on May 9th. These individuals, primarily laborers who had been working in Rajasthan, were reportedly from Dinajpur and Narsindi in Bangladesh.

The increased security measures underscore the heightened sensitivity along the India-Bangladesh border in the wake of Operation Sindoor. The BSF’s North Bengal Frontier shares borders with not only Bangladesh but also Nepal and Bhutan, adding to the complexity of the security landscape.
