**Bengaluru, May 10, 2025** – Residents of Padmanabhanagar are up in arms over overflowing illegal garbage dumps near a garbage transfer station, creating a serious health hazard and impacting local businesses. The unsightly piles of trash, located on both sides of a busy street, emit an unbearable stench, forcing residents to wear masks and avoid the area, especially during rain.
Local workers and business owners alike are complaining about the situation. A restaurant waiter reported that customers are deterred by the smell, affecting business. One resident suggested the vacant lot, currently used for illegal dumping, be converted into a much-needed children’s playground.
The problem is exacerbated by the proximity of the illegal dumps to parked garbage lorries, raising questions about the efficiency of waste management. While the lorries are used to transfer waste to compactors for transport to a landfill, the contractors’ use of the site for dumping highlights systemic flaws.
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has acknowledged the issue, with a senior official stating that several areas near transfer stations have become similar black spots and will be cleared. However, residents remain frustrated with the ongoing problem and demand immediate action to address the unsanitary and unhealthy conditions.
