**ISLAMABAD/NEW DELHI –** Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated dramatically early Saturday, with Pakistan accusing India of launching air-to-surface missile attacks on at least three of its air bases. Pakistan immediately launched retaliatory strikes targeting Indian air bases, including Udhampur and Pathankot, and a missile storage facility.
The exchange of strikes represents a significant escalation in the conflict, which began Wednesday. Pakistan identified a key air base near Islamabad as one of the targets of the alleged Indian attack. Witnesses reported hearing explosions and seeing a large fireball near the Noor Khan air base in Rawalpindi.
Pakistan’s military spokesman, Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, condemned the alleged Indian actions, warning of a dangerous escalation towards war. Pakistan’s retaliatory action, dubbed “Operation Bunyan al-Marsus,” was described as an “eye for an eye” response.
The situation remains highly volatile, with both nuclear-armed nations now engaged in a direct military confrontation. The full extent of the damage and casualties on both sides remains unclear.
