**NEW DELHI/ISLAMABAD** – India and Pakistan are teetering on the brink of war following a dramatic escalation of tensions overnight. Both countries have mobilized their militaries after a series of cross-border attacks and counter-attacks.
Friday evening saw Pakistan attempt attacks on 26 Indian targets. India retaliated by targeting Pakistani air bases, prompting Pakistan to close its airspace. Pakistan also reportedly launched a Fateh-1 missile at India. Overnight, both countries engaged in missile and drone exchanges, with Pakistan reportedly targeting Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Gujarat, and Rajasthan.
Early Saturday morning, India launched missiles at four air bases near Islamabad, causing significant damage. A Pakistani military spokesperson, Lieutenant General Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry, confirmed the attacks, stating that India used air-to-surface missiles. The Indian government is scheduled to hold a press conference at 10:00 AM to provide further updates.
Reports indicate that India successfully targeted the Nur Khan (Rawalpindi), Murid (Chakwal), and Rafiqi (Shorkot) air bases in Pakistan, inflicting heavy damage. Explosions were also heard in Islamabad and Lahore. The Pakistani army claims India used ballistic missiles.
Following drone attacks from Pakistan, India launched counter-strikes in the Neelam Valley and Sialkot in Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Videos circulating on social media purportedly show India successfully intercepting a Pakistani long-range missile near Sirsa. Authorities in Sirsa have advised citizens to stay indoors.
India’s advanced air defense systems, including the S-400, L-70, Zu-23, and Shaktilka, are credited with preventing further incursions. The situation remains highly volatile, with both nations on high alert.
