Sat May 10 15:40:00 UTC 2025: ## India and Pakistan Agree to Immediate Ceasefire

**NEW DELHI/ISLAMABAD** – India and Pakistan have agreed to a complete and immediate ceasefire, effective 5 PM local time, following a phone call between the two countries’ Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs). The announcement, welcomed by US President Donald Trump, brings a temporary end to escalating tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbours.

The ceasefire was confirmed by both sides. Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated that the agreement was reached during a conversation between the DGMOs at 3:35 PM. He added that further discussions between officials from both countries are scheduled for May 12th. Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, also announced the ceasefire on social media, emphasizing Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace and security.

The agreement follows days of intense military activity and diplomatic efforts. According to sources, Pakistan had been actively seeking dialogue, with attempts made by its National Security Advisor and ISI chief to contact their Indian counterparts. Meanwhile, Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar engaged in discussions with their US counterparts to facilitate a resolution. Reports suggest that India insisted on a ceasefire on its own terms, a condition that appears to have been met.

US President Trump lauded the decision in a tweet, congratulating both nations for demonstrating “common sense and great wisdom.” US Secretary of State also confirmed intensive back-channel discussions over the past 48 hours involving top officials from both India and Pakistan, including Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shehbaz Sharif, and External Affairs Ministers S. Jaishankar and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

The ceasefire, reached through direct communication between the DGMOs, currently focuses solely on halting all military actions across land, air, and sea. No further discussions on other issues or venues have been announced at this time.
