Fri May 09 17:10:00 UTC 2025: ## India Foils Pakistan’s Drone and Missile Attacks; Accuses Islamabad of Using Civilian Aircraft as Shields
**NEW DELHI** – India successfully thwarted multiple drone and missile attacks targeting several military installations in northern and western India late Thursday night, the government revealed in a press briefing Friday. The attacks, believed to be a retaliatory measure following India’s “Operation Sindhur,” were neutralized by India’s air defense systems, notably the S-400.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Colonel Sofia Kuraishi, and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh detailed the events, presenting photographic evidence of Pakistan’s attempts to use civilian aircraft as shields during the attacks. Colonel Kuraishi highlighted Pakistan’s heavy shelling along the Line of Control (LOC) in areas including Tangdhar, Uri, and Udhampur, resulting in some Indian casualties. She revealed that Pakistan attempted to target 36 locations within India, utilizing drones manufactured in Turkey.
Indian officials stated that Pakistan’s failure to close its airspace during the attacks, with civilian flights operating over Karachi and Lahore, demonstrated a reckless disregard for civilian lives. They emphasized that India responded proportionately and with restraint to minimize civilian casualties, despite the significant provocation.
Colonel Kuraishi further disclosed that in response to the drone attacks, the Indian Air Force launched a counter-attack, effectively destroying a Pakistani surveillance radar system, inflicting substantial damage on Pakistani forces.
Mr. Misri condemned Pakistan’s aggressive military action and its use of civilian aircraft as a shield, emphasizing the dangerous and irresponsible nature of such tactics. He reiterated that India will respond firmly to any further such cowardly acts. The Indian government’s response has been met with international praise for its measured and restrained approach.
