**NEW DELHI/ISLAMABAD** – India and Pakistan are on the brink of war following a series of escalating attacks and counter-attacks overnight. The situation reached a fever pitch Friday night into Saturday morning, with both countries deploying their militaries.
Pakistan initiated the escalation late Friday, attempting attacks on 26 Indian locations. In response, India targeted several Pakistani airbases, prompting Pakistan to close its airspace. Pakistan also allegedly launched a Fateh-1 missile at India, which was reportedly intercepted.
Early Saturday morning, India launched missiles at four airbases near Islamabad, reportedly causing significant damage. Pakistani military spokesperson Lieutenant General Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry confirmed the attacks, stating that India used air-to-surface missiles. The Indian government is scheduled to hold a press conference at 10 AM local time to provide further details on the overnight events.
Reports suggest that India successfully targeted the Nur Khan (Rawalpindi), Murid (Chakwal), and Rafiqui (Shorkot) airbases in Pakistan, inflicting heavy damage. Explosions were also heard in Islamabad and Lahore. The Pakistani military claims India used ballistic missiles.
While Pakistan attempted attacks using drones and missiles across Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Gujarat, and Rajasthan, India’s advanced air defense systems, including S-400, L-70, Zu-23, and Shaktilka, reportedly intercepted many of these attacks. Videos circulating on social media appear to show successful interception of a Pakistani long-range missile.
The heightened tensions have led to a complete closure of Pakistan’s airspace until at least noon on Saturday. The situation remains extremely volatile, with both nations on high alert.
