Sat May 10 13:00:00 UTC 2025: **IPL 2025 Matches Suspended Amidst India-Pakistan Tensions**
NEW DELHI – The remaining matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 have been suspended for one week following escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced Friday. This decision comes a day after a match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala was abandoned due to air raid warnings in Jammu and Pathankot.
Players are now departing from their teams and returning home. Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals were transported to New Delhi Friday under tight security via a special train. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), who were in Lucknow for an upcoming match, returned to Bangalore on Saturday. The team confirmed their safe arrival on social media, thanking the BCCI for its swift response in ensuring their safe return. RCB’s statement noted that players and staff have now departed for their respective home cities and countries. A photo showcasing Virat Kohli, Josh Hazlewood, and Yash Dayal was shared on their social media.
RCB, currently second in the points table with eight wins out of eleven matches, were on the verge of playoff qualification, needing only one more victory. The suspension affects numerous foreign players and support staff across various teams, including RCB’s extensive international contingent.
The BCCI expressed gratitude to local authorities and police for their cooperation in facilitating the safe return of players and staff. The league’s resumption date is currently pending.
