Sat May 10 14:30:00 UTC 2025: ## India and Pakistan Ceasefire After Airstrikes

**New Delhi:** A tense standoff between India and Pakistan has ended with a ceasefire, announced late on May 7th. India launched “Operation Sindoor,” a series of airstrikes targeting at least nine terrorist camps across the border in response to the Pulwama attack. Indian officials claim the operation resulted in the elimination of over 30 terrorists. Following three days of intense cross-border firing and military actions, External Affairs Minister Vikram Misri announced a ceasefire effective 5 PM on May 7th. The ceasefire followed a phone call from Pakistan’s defense ministry.

While the Modi government is being lauded for de-escalating the situation, the events have also evoked memories of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s decisive actions during the 1971 war that led to the creation of Bangladesh. Congress party members are sharing old videos and photos of Indira Gandhi, using the hashtag #इंदिरागांधीहोनाआसाननहीं (“Indira Gandhi is not easy to be”), highlighting her strong leadership during that conflict. The hashtag has trended on X (formerly Twitter). Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate tweeted, “Indira Gandhi being easy is not true.”

Although the ceasefire is in effect, India has made it clear that its actions against terrorism will continue.
