Fri May 09 13:13:02 UTC 2025: ## Pakistan Shelling Kills One, Injures Three in Jammu and Kashmir
**Jammu, May 9, 2025** – A cross-border escalation between India and Pakistan resulted in the death of one civilian and injuries to three others in the Poonch and Rajouri districts of Jammu and Kashmir early Friday morning. Pakistani forces initiated a series of high-intensity blasts and shelling between 3:50 a.m. and 4:45 a.m., causing a blackout and triggering sirens. The shelling targeted areas in Rajouri, Poonch, Jammu, Kupwara, and Baramulla districts.
The deceased, identified as Mohd Abrar of Loran, was killed in Pakistani shelling in Poonch. Layaqat Hussain of Mendhar was among the injured, along with two others. The attack resulted in significant property damage, affecting numerous houses and hundreds of vehicles. Scores of residents have been evacuated from areas along the Line of Control (LoC) to safer locations. Schools, colleges, and universities in the region remain closed.
Indian authorities responded swiftly, thwarting multiple attempts by Pakistan to strike military sites using drones and missiles throughout Thursday night. The Indian Air Defence system successfully neutralized drones and other flying objects detected in the Jammu region. The Indian Army reported successfully intercepting eight missiles launched by Pakistan late Thursday night targeting civilian and strategic locations, preventing any casualties. The Army stated they remain committed to defending India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
This incident follows Tuesday night’s attacks, which left 15 Indians dead and 43 injured in Poonch and Tangdhar. The Indian Army described the Thursday night attacks as a “Hamas-style” attempt, and their successful interception prevented a potentially far more devastating outcome. District officials are assessing the situation and reinforcing security measures. Tensions remain high between the two nations amid concerns of a larger conflict.
