Fri May 09 07:42:26 UTC 2025: ## India and Pakistan Exchange Fire Across LoC After Drone and Missile Attacks

**New Delhi, India** – Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated sharply overnight, with cross-border shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) following a series of alleged drone and missile attacks from Pakistan. Pakistani troops resumed firing along the LoC in areas including Kupwara and Uri early Friday morning.

This escalation comes after Indian forces reportedly thwarted multiple attempts by Pakistan to target Indian cities in northern and western India using drones and missiles on Thursday and Wednesday nights. These attacks targeted several states, including Gujarat, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Jammu and Kashmir, prompting authorities to activate air defense systems, sound sirens, and implement blackouts in many areas.

Sources claim that an Indian surface-to-air missile successfully shot down a Pakistani F-16 fighter jet during these events, although official confirmation is pending. This follows earlier reports of successful Indian interceptions of drone and missile attacks over the past few days.

India’s actions come in the wake of “Operation Sindoor,” launched earlier this week. On Wednesday, India reportedly launched 24 missiles in 25 minutes, targeting nine alleged terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) in retaliation for a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on April 22nd, which claimed 26 lives. The current exchange of fire represents a significant escalation in the conflict. The situation remains fluid, and further updates are expected.
