**Alappuzha, Kerala, May 9, 2025** – A 17-year-old boy, identified as Sooraj, died Friday morning at Government Medical College Hospital, Alappuzha, from suspected rabies. Sooraj, from Thakazhi in Alappuzha district, was reportedly bitten by a dog approximately two weeks prior and did not receive the anti-rabies vaccine. He developed a fever several days ago and was admitted to the hospital where a rabies infection was confirmed. His condition deteriorated, leading to his death. Authorities are conducting a post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death and will vaccinate Sooraj’s friends and relatives as a precaution. This follows the recent rabies-related death of a seven-year-old girl in Kollam, despite her receiving the anti-rabies vaccination.
