**Chennai, May 9, 2025** – The Tamil Nadu government has approved ₹150 crore for the “Namakku Naame Thittam” program in 2025-26. This initiative encourages public participation in creating and maintaining public assets.

The program, detailed in a government order from the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department, outlines guidelines for the upcoming fiscal year. Eligible projects include the construction and repair of buildings, smart classrooms, school and college labs, hostels, and community kitchens.

Funding allocation will prioritize districts based on population, with 74% distributed accordingly. One percent is earmarked for public awareness campaigns, while the remaining 25% will be allocated for special projects overseen by the Director of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj.

The government encourages local bodies and communities to maintain the completed projects through self-managed user groups. The emphasis is on locally-driven planning, execution, and maintenance based on community needs.
