**Chennai, India – May 9, 2025** – Following escalating tensions in Jammu and Kashmir, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has ordered the immediate return of all Tamil Nadu students studying in the region. The directive prioritizes the safety and well-being of approximately 41 students, primarily enrolled at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in Srinagar and various agricultural universities.

The Non-Resident Tamils Welfare Board (NRTWB) chairperson, Karthikeya Sivasenapathy, confirmed the Chief Minister’s order, stating that the board is actively coordinating with authorities in Jammu and Kashmir and the respective institutions to facilitate a swift and safe return. Communication has been established with NIFT Srinagar officials and a Tamil Nadu cadre officer overseeing development in the region, who have assured the students’ safe return once the situation stabilizes.

The NRTWB has directly contacted the students, providing reassurance and support. Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam has also spoken to the students and is coordinating with relevant authorities. The Chief Minister is reportedly personally monitoring the situation.

The NRTWB has urged students from Tamil Nadu studying in Jammu and Kashmir and other areas deemed sensitive by the Union government to contact them for assistance.
