**Hassan, Karnataka (May 9, 2025):** The sale of seed potatoes commenced today at the Hassan APMC market yard, offering farmers a much-needed boost to their upcoming planting season. Seed potatoes are available at a subsidized rate of ₹1,500 to ₹1,600 per quintal, a price set by the district administration to prevent exploitation.
Deputy Commissioner C. Sathyabhama inaugurated the sale, urging farmers to follow the advice of agricultural experts regarding proper treatment and planting of the seed potatoes. Around three lakh tonnes of seed potatoes, procured from Punjab and stored in local cold storage facilities, are available to meet the district’s demand. The Deputy Commissioner assured farmers that the administration will address any complaints of overcharging by traders. Hassan, a major potato producer, relies on the timely supply of seed potatoes for its yearly harvest.
