Thu May 08 17:44:27 UTC 2025: **Reliance Withdraws Trademark Application for “Operation Sindoor”**

MUMBAI, May 8, 2025 – Reliance Industries Ltd. (RIL) has withdrawn its application to trademark the phrase “Operation Sindoor,” the codename for India’s recent military operation against terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The application, filed just a day earlier, sparked controversy.

RIL stated the application was filed inadvertently by an unauthorized junior employee and that the company had no intention of trademarking the phrase, reiterating its commitment to an “India First” policy. The company expressed immense pride in Operation Sindoor and its armed forces, emphasizing its unwavering support for the government’s fight against terrorism.

Following RIL’s withdrawal, other applicants remain in contention for the trademark, including a retired Air Force officer and a Delhi High Court lawyer. One applicant has pledged to donate any profits from related film projects to war widows. The trademark applications were filed with the Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs & Trade Marks for use in entertainment-related services.
