**Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, May 9, 2025** – Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced today that the Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) irrigation project will deliver water to the drought-prone Rayalaseema region by July 10th. The project, described as “Asia’s longest” canal, spanning 770 kilometers, will irrigate 1.98 lakh acres in its first phase and an additional 4.04 lakh acres in the second.

Mr. Naidu lauded the project’s progress, highlighting the ₹3,873 crore investment in canal improvements. He attributed delays to the previous government, contrasting it with the current administration’s accelerated completion. Upon full operationalization, the HNSS project is expected to significantly improve agricultural productivity and alleviate the region’s chronic water shortage. The Chief Minister also emphasized the importance of the Polavaram and Banakacharla projects in achieving long-term water security for the region.

In addition to the irrigation project update, Mr. Naidu announced plans for 16,000 new teacher recruitments and annual ₹20,000 support for farmers under the ‘Annadata Sukhibhava’ initiative. He further promoted his P4 (People’s Progress through People’s Participation) initiative, aiming to eradicate poverty by 2029 through decentralized development.
